Thomas Nickles Project is pleased to announce our participation in the new edition of Art on Paper New York 2022, with a selection of works by the Cuban born artists Sandra Cordero, Rocío García, Gertrudis Rivalta and Alejandra Glez. With complex universes and distinctive voices, these four creators meet, in addition to gender and origin, in the passion for paper as a medium within their oeuvre. Rocío García from Havana, Cuba, Gertrudis Rivalta from Alicante, Spain, Sandra Cordero from Union City, New Jersey and Alejandra Glez from Madrid, Spain, become a representation of the Cuban diaspora, as the island of Cuba extends its cultural territory beyond its socio-political borders, becoming a map where continents converge. These artists, at different stages of their careers, move through paper in Drawing, Collage, Dioramas and Photography steeped in history, identity, eros and fantasy—our selection is merely a representation of bodies of work that continue to define themselves.
